With the application of Testing 2.0 technology, Test-it™ samples various food items, skincare and cosmetic products, and daily necessities on a regular basis. These products are purchased from supermarkets, chain stores and online stores as an anonymous consumer.
Each product would be categorized as Green Fish, Yellow Fish or Red Fish, with reference to international product safety standards of the European Union (EU), World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as well as the national safety standards of the United States, Japan and China. A horizontal analysis with similar products is also conducted as cross reference.

Test-it™ applies top-class Fish Embryo Toxicity (FET) testing technologies (Testing 2.0) to provide an effective and thorough examination of the acute and chronic toxicity levels of products we use in our daily lives. Test-it™ can effectively identify several thousands of chemicals which are known to be toxic to humans. The transgenic medaka embryo test uses genetically modified medaka embryos containing the Nobel Prize winning green fluorescent proteins gene. The transgenic medaka has been stabilized for more than 10 generations. The stability and accuracy of the test is well recognized world wide.

Vitargent holds exclusive patent licensing of the transgenic medeka embryo test for xenoestrogens.

Xenoestrogens (including pesticides, veterinary drugs, antibiotics, hormones, plasticisers, persistent organic pollutants etc.) disrupt the estrogen endocrine system. It is proven to cause health issues including cancers, infertility, precocious puberty, lower IQ, neurological disorders and diabetes.

WHO, the UN and USEPA believe that xenoestrogen has become the third leading threat to human, biodiversity and the ecosystem after global warming.

Transgenic medeka embryos are used for testing samples after pre-treatment. When chronic toxicants (xenoestrogens) are detected, the transgenic fish embryos emit green florescent light in various luminous intensity. Florescent intensity quantifies toxicity, which provides reference for human health risk evaluation according to WHO/FAO standard.

Zebrafish embryo testing technology made cover story in world-renowned science magazine Nature. According to the Welcome Sanger Institute , 84% of genes known to be associated with human diseases have a zebrafish counterpart. Zebrafish possess recognizable organs such as heart, liver, kidney, pancrease, central nerve system, blood vessel etc with the same function as well as highly conserved physiology compared to those of human. Therefore, any substances that are toxic to zebrafish embryos are likely to be toxic to human (XP, can you associate it to heart and nuero diseases?).

Proven to have a capacity to screen over 1,000 toxicants, zebrafish are widely used in pharmaceutical safety and efficacy evaluation. The presecnce of toxicants will cause abnormal symptoms in fish embryos, including heart edema, tail curvature, absence of pigment and even immediate death in serious conditions.

Zebrafish embryos are used for testing products after pre-treatment. They can identify the concentration level of 50% embryo fatality in the test (known as LC50). Definition of fatality in the tests is based on ISO15088 and OECD TG 236 standards.
